I have the same problem with KMail / Kontact. I have tried with Slackware 12.2
(KDE 3.5.10) and Slackware 13 (KDE 4.2.4). Both have the same problem.

Incidentally, this bug renders KMail quite useless in big corporate
environments. Where I work, we have lots of public folders on an Exchange
server. Each time I check my email, I get several notices that I don't have
access to some public folder. So every time I would check my email, KMail needs
active user interaction to proceed.

Furthermore, in my experience this bug is one of several bugs that make it very
hard to configure KMail / Kontact for use with an Exchange server. I've written
a little blog post about it at http://floorenpj.xs4all.nl/blog/?p=97 .

I'd be more than happy to try and test things, if necessary.
