Does address completion work with a local resource?  

Also what addressbooks are configured in 'KDE Resources' in systemsettings?  

KMail still uses the old KResource API in 4.4 so the akonadi resources you have
are only accessible if you have an Akonadi bridge KResource set up. 
Alternatively you can still use any native kresources directly.
