I'm not in the position to promise anything here, so don't get your hopes up
too much ;-) I do have some strong non-KDE-development background, though, and
I think that the whole PIM/email/sync(!) story might turn out quite nicely
after all.

The KDE 4.5 Beta announcement
(http://kde.org/announcements/announce-4.5-beta1.php) states: "Initially
planned for KDE SC 4.5.0, the KDE PIM team have decided to delay the release of
the Akonadi-based KMail for one month. [...] Akonadi will centralize syncing
and caching of PIM data, deliver wider support for groupware servers and makes
handling PIM data, such as contacts, calendaring and email more efficient by
sharing it across applications."
