Thank you.  I believe those steps fixed my Akonadi issue.  I am following other
steps I found to fix my Nepomuk issue (same page:
http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi#Nepomuk_Indexing_Agents_have_been_Disabled).

I am taking the liberty to mark this as "RESOLVED/WONTFIX" as these steps are
documented as a known issue.
