steps to reproduce:

1. doubleclick a mail so it opens in a separate window (HTML mail in my case,
dunno if it MUST be a HTML mail)
2. File -> Save as..., save the mail to a file
3. Close the mail window
4. select another mail in the message list
5 . kaboom

The crash can be reproduced every time.
