this happens here very often if  attachments are loaded on demand.

sometimes - I believe opening it the first time - the attachment is usually
available , accesssing it again it's emtpy - if it is "empty" all operations
save and   copy files with size 0 - if the mails is deleted, information is
obviously lost.

I suggested already once to keep/cache a local copy of downloaded attachments
at least for a certain time - this would increase the perceived performance a
lot   - especially for mobile/remote users
