I face similar problems here with both my IMAP accounts. 
On startup, if the network is not coming up fast enough, akonadi cancels
refreshing the account and won't restart refreshing it if the connection is
available again.
Same happens after Suspend to Ram.

The only thing that works, is opening the ressource, pressing there "Apply" and
the already mentioned approach to restart akonadi at all.
