Ok. The behaviour is available but the way it is implemented is unbearable:

Each time I switch into a directory first all threads are expanded and then the
cursor jumps to the current mail. The expansion takes several seconds depending
on the system usage.

Why don't you just keep the list expanded? This way it is not necessary to
reexpand the threads on each folder entry?

Currently one has to decide what is worse. The unexpanded mails or the delay
upon folder entry.
