What I was doing when the application crashed:
did nothing special inside kmail, just checked mail, that is, starting the app,
switching to my IMAP folder, pressed F5 a few times as I was expecting a mail,
and then (the mail didn't arrive) I just wanted to quit by <ALT+F Q> sequence.
