Summary: Automatic archiving of sent and received email
           Product: kontact
           Version: 4.3
          Platform: Fedora RPMs
        OS/Version: unspecified
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: techwritebos at yahoo.com

Version: (using KDE 4.3.2)
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

It would be hugely advantageous for a business environment to have a feature
whereby all email (both sent and received) is archived in a database and
accessible for retrieval. It is possible currently to save individual mails
but this is very cumbersome. Email archival should be transparent...it should
be possible to set it up in a few clicks, and have it possible for both local
(per user) or global (system wide) archiving. In the United States (and
possibly other countries) this archival is required for many businesses -- not
having a system for easy mail retrieval may mean Kontact/Kmail is less widely
adopted.

It would be hugely helpful if all associated data (such as threads, replied-to
data, importance, etc.) could be included.

It would not be necessary to restore email into Kontact, though this would be
an even better feature, as it could be used to back up Kmail/Kontact as well.

The key thing is that this should be relatively end-user friendly, perhaps with
a Wizard to walk one through the initial setup steps...and then a one click
"Enable Archiving" option in the Preferences.

I am not a programmer but would be happy to assist in any way possible
(including writing documentation) if it helps.
