I also just spotted this problem under KDE 4.2.3. As far as I can see the
configuration for the templates still seems to be in the file, but file
corruption apparantly prevents kmail from reading the data (so %BLANK is taken
as a default). When opening kmailrc with vim I can see some control characters
(rendered as "@") in the MessageListView::Themes and
MessageListView::Aggregations section.
