I also lost my incoming accounts (but not outgoing or messages).  I was copying
a large amount of data from an external drive which filled up my /home
directory.  When Kmail tried to retrieve mail I got a message something like
"unable to retrieve messages due to insufficient disk space Kmail will now
close".  This message appeared for each account that was 'deleted'!
