I also have this problem with KDE 4.2.4, also installed from the Gentoo
packages. I'm also using a .wav file (the doorbell from Babylon 5) as an
incoming mail notification. It gets cut off almost every time, but in varying
places. Every once in a while, it plays to completion. I'm using the xine
backend to phonon (the gstreamer backend doesn't work at all for some reason).
