Summary: Organization should be Formatted Name if no Family or
Given present
Product: kmail
Version: unspecified
Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: unspecified
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: drankinatty at suddenlinkmail.com
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
The display of "organization" contact information in kontact, kmail and
addressbook is "empty" if no "Given" or "Family" name is present resulting in
all organization contacts being grouped at the top of the list in address book
with "No Name" shown at all. (Just a group of blank entries at the top of the
list) This is of no use at all unless you click on *each* blank to display the
detailed information so you can tell what you are looking at. (not fun)
*If* an "Organization" name is present, *and if* there is *no* Family or Given
name for the contact, *then* the "Formatted Name" should default to the
"Organization" name in addressbook. (endif ;-)
Currently the only way to make organization contacts visible is to edit each
contact "one-by-one" and change the "Formatted name:" from the default of
"Simple" to "Organization" so that the contact is visible... That's nuts. This
is a computer, it should be smart enough to do the simple stuff for me so I see
usable information on the screen instead of blanks in the list.
This is very noticeable in kontact, kmail and addressbook where groupware
integration is used. When I first opened addressbook, I though it was broken
because all I saw was blank names. Then after editing 60+ organization contacts
one-by-one, I finally got the the addressbook in a usable form.
