Summary: RFE: per-identity reply options (quoting, signature
                    placement...)
           Product: kmail
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Compiled Sources
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs at kde.org
        ReportedBy: mw_triad at users.sourceforge.net

Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

I've been a long-time Thunderbird user, but after yet another hideous icon
change from Mozilla, decided to have another look at KMail. As I was poking
around the configuration, I realized there was a feature missing that is going
to be a non-starter for me. Specifically, the ability to change reply options
per identity.

<story>
I use TB right now for $DAYJOB IMAP, that also receives mail forwarded through
my sourceforge account. Since $DAYJOB is Outlook-based, naturally people expect
the abominable quoting style and TOFU[1], whereas I obviously prefer to use
proper quoting and trimmed-inline-reply for sensible people. Now, for the
longest time I simply used Outlook and put up with it (and Windoze in general
;-( ), and then moved to Evolution for a while (awful program, that; for some
reason I didn't realize that, yes, $DAYJOB's e-mail server *does* have IMAP
enabled). I'd been dealing with, and apologizing for Outlook's awful quoting
the whole time.

When I finally switched to my beloved Thunderbird and set up my identities
properly, I was delightfully surprised the first time I replied to something
that had been sent to sf.net that Thunderbird not only picked that identity as
the outgoing address, but *put my signature /and the caret/ in the right spot
(at the bottom) and with the proper ("-- ") header*.
</story>

TB's automagical quoting, and signature and caret placement, based on the named
recipient of a message (and thus the associated identity) is not something I am
ready to give up. Please add this to KMail! Bonus points for offering
Outlook-style (gratuitous header, no quote character) reply quoting as an
option, which Thunderbird seems to lack currently.
