This feature is realy very easy to implement:

When KMail checks for new e-mails on the server, it knows which of them it has
already downloaded, so it doesn't download them again. It knows that even
e-mails that have been already deleted locally. The simple conclusion is that
KMail knows which of the e-mails present on the server have been already
deleted locally by the user. Then what's the problem with deleting them also on
the server? There's no problem at all.

And this can be done while checking for new e-mails - that's when Thunderbird
does that, for example.

To be honest, I haven't read all the discussion above, so I don't know what are
the arguments against implemeting this feature. But I know that there are no
technical barriers to implementing it, and the number of voters for this bug
shows that this feature would be useful for many KMail users.
