I don't agree. Why?

1 - this configuration is done in kmail
2 - informing the IP (127.0.0.1) instead localhost works great.
3 - in the past it worked the same way.
4 - Some colleagues use thunderbird and it works (you can inform IP or
localhost, as you wish)

Therefore, it isn't be a mailserver issue!
