OK, now I can confirm this. It doesn't happen always, but it can be reproduced.
Some notes:
1) The menu option Folder->thread messages works fine, *always*
2) If this menu option is enabled while setting the thread messages option from
"kmail settnigs->appearence->message list->thread messages", it works in
reverse (it unthreads the message list)
3) sometimes it can be reproduced in the opposite way too. when you enable the
tread messages option from the settings, a new thread is created for every
message (i.e. they are not threaded at all, although they normally are threaded
with the folder->thread messages option)
