This is a bug and exists in Kmail 3.5.9 and 3.5.10 and KDE 4.n 
Wordwrap is for _displaying_ the text wrapped and not hardwrapping (and
destroying) the text permanently.
This bug becomes extremely annoying if you use "save as draft" or if you need
to reply resend and edit e-mails.
