Summary: Kontact crashes during its startup - caused by
                    KOrganizer
           Product: kontact
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: crash
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org
        ReportedBy: porscher14 volny cz

Version: Who knows, I probably can't get to that as it crashes, it must be something designed primarily for KDE 3.5, it's a stable release, probably latest ubuntu package. (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
Compiler: I thought packages were precompiled
OS: Linux

First of all, I'm sorry to have stated the bug is in Kontact - the problem is probably in KOrganizer. During the wizard I tried several things and came to this conclusion.
I've been using Kontact for a few months now and everything seemed fine. One day, all of a sudden, when I wanted to start it, it just crashed. And wouldn't start again.
Other applications worked seperatly - e.g. Kmail, Basket.
I tried reinstalling - no difference, then I tried removing the ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer directory and - heureka! - Kontact (and KOrganizer) would start again. But unfortunately this is not a solution - I do not have all my calendar data in KOrganizer.
I then tried just copying the backup instead of the default *.ics file = crash on startup, importing using the GUI = crash on startup, and only ToDos were imported.
Adding events in the clean calendar seems to work.
This is the backtrace:
