Summary: Adress book and filtering problem
           Product: kmail
           Version: 1.9.6
          Platform: SuSE RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org
        ReportedBy: john_82 tiscali co uk

Version: 1.9.6 (using KDE 3.5.8)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Emails often consist of a name and the actual email address enclosed in < >. Sometimes the name part is changed but the email address is still the same.

If I try to add the new name complete with the same email address to my address book it fails because the address book only seems to check against the part in < >.

The filter on the other hand uses the entire thing name included so if set up to root mail from a particular person to some folder and the name part changes it doesn't go there.

eg J L Smith < jlsmith somewhere com> might be changed to
Jacob Smith < jlsmith somewhere com>

Address book says they are the same, filters say they are different.

I think that this would be cured by only checking on the < > part and allowing different names against an email address in the address book. You no doubt will feel differently but the ability to check that an email address is actually in my address book is an extremely useful facility.Any other approach I can think of will wreck that.

John
I suspect this all applies to all versions
