One of the dupes (42083) asks for these specific features:
1) Kmail would have highlight ability: the user could highlight part of the text of an email message, and when he reopen the message at a later date the hightlight would still be present.
2) Kmail would have a notes feature, where a note could be assigned to an email. When the user reopens the email message, his accompanying note would be there, too.
3) These should be implemented in a database and the original email in the mbox/maildir file would remain untouched. Much like the flags work. 

I very much agree that this should be implemented. Even if this would not be part of the core Kmail, it could be an extension if bug #33670 were implemented.
