Hi Kees,
the kdepim-bugs mailing list is not supposed to be used for anything
else but the automatic bug report notifications generated by Bugzilla.
(kdepim-bugs-owner: Please clarify/improve the "About kdepim-bugs"
text.)
Please report bugs via bugs.kde.org.
If you have questions concering the usage of the KDE PIM applications
(e.g. Kontact, KMail, etc.) then use the kdepim-users mailing list.
Since you do have such a question I move this discussion to this
mailing list.

When sorting by order-of-arrival then KMail does actually sort by the
internal unique message ID. This message ID is strictly increasing,
i.e. newer messages have higher message IDs. So this is actually more
like sorting by order-of-first-seen-by-kmail. Usually it works as
expected. (I thought in case of IMAP we'd use the IMAP UID, but since I
cannot find this in the code we probably didn't implement it.)
Does sorting by order-of-arrival work at least for new messages? Do you
probably use client side filtering?
Regards,
Ingo
