I noticed a problem in Quanta which said ;

"Cannot talk to klauncher"

In the process of fixing this, I did :

rm /my_home_directory/.DCOPserver_*__0

This solved the problem with Quanta, but I can also use kmail again.
Although I'm not sure this solved it, I can't reproduce kmail to hang any longer.
