Using KDE 3.5.7 (KMail 1.9.7) from Debian unstable, and experiencing this problem. Exactly what Michael Kreitzer described actually. If I leave the "IMAP server disconnected" popup window hanging there for several hours, then KMail is unable to reconnect. I have to kill `pkill kio_imap4`.
