The bug is fixed in gentoo linux (x86):

wolle ~ $ kmail -v
Qt: 3.3.8
KDE: 3.5.7
KMail: 1.9.7

The bug is still present in kubuntu 7.10 (i386):
root ubuntu:~# kmail -v
Qt: 3.3.7
KDE: 3.5.8
KMail: 1.9.6 (enterprise 0.20070907.709405)
