Summary: authentification doesn't work with passwords containing
special characters (possibly limited to german umlauts)
           Product: kmail
           Version: 1.9.7
          Platform: SuSE RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs kde org
        ReportedBy: erunno web de

Version: 1.9.7 (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

When trying to connect to my IMAP account provided by web.de the authentification always fails.

My password contains special characters including german umlauts so I changed it temporarily to pure ASCII. After that I could log into my email account. Besides german umlauts I also use the characters '*' and '!' in said password.

The problem is limited to KMail (and curiously enough, Evolution) as it works flawlessly with both Thunderbird 2 and Opera M2 9.21.

With best regards
Erunno
