Hi Thomas,

I've tried all sorts of things, but did not get much
more info on the bug. Then, I screwed up pretty much
everything when I tried reinstalling KDE. I
reinstalled several depending packages, and eventually
nothing worked anymore. 

I finally decided to install Knoppix Azur instead
(Kaella, the French version) in which Kmail and
Kontact work fine... except it destroyed my MBR! live
and learn. For now, I boot with the live CD and I hope
to go with Debian when I find out how to rebuild my
MBR (I still need my Windows OS for a couple of
programs).
