Well today everything seems to work just fine when publishing to a NFS-mounted share.  I am going to close the bug for now and I will reopen it later if needed.

For future readers, the screenshot is exactly how I have it set up under its currently-working settings; publishing a .vfb file to a NFS-mounted share.  Don't ask what changed, I have no idea.
