This crash seems the same IMAP related crash that I encountered on upgrading to Kmail with Etch.  Removing the IMAP folder allowed from the kmailrc allowed it to start without crashing.

Traces etc.. posted to an old bug.. (I know, what was I thinking, bug 15774)
