It is actually normal that this is empty because pkg-config is built
to look within its $prefix/lib/pkgconfig automatically. So, it is very
strange that it could not see the .pc file in that location. Usually,
people only set PKG_CONFIG_PATH when they are installing things to
non-standard locations like /opt or $HOME. Glad you got it working.
