For HD(V) recording, you have some great general tips on the HV20
forum - http://www.hv20.com/.
50i is the interlaced version of PF25 (which is progressive) and
interlacing is NOT something you want or need. 30p is the NTSC
(american) version of a progressive stream, but its a lot more
complicated than the european version - you have to do inverse
telecine (the interlaced stream is called 60i). You seem to have the
european version so just use PF25 and the Movie setting for contrast,
you should be ok. And go read the tips if you have a prosumer camera
because they figured a lot of funky stuff out:)
