some more test showed:

when playing with melt at the in point of the video melt shows:

maybe some locale stuff i thought (sscanf reacts not so nice in  
germany at "." or ",", because the comma in german is "," - i had this  
issue some times ago also )

unset all locale LC_* and LANG to posix did not change anything.
so i think it must be some value in the .kdenlive file, since

melt 35mm_strip1.jpg in=0 out=100 MVI_5500.MOV

works.
