[Kdenlive-devel] why does kdenlive choke on all videos from stopmotion?

It used to just die instantly, so its doing better, but if I try to play my video (key to adding my audio tracks) it 
goes through the first few frames and locks...

for more info, stopmotion is using the following to create the video

ffmpeg -r 30 -b 1800 -i $IMAGEPATH/%06d.jpg $VIDEOFILE

is there hope???
kdenlive 0.4 (using kde 3.5.5 under linux debian kernel (for what it matters) 2.6.16.45 )
