No this version should be fine.

First, try playing your dv file with mlt by doing the following:

inigo my_dv_file

If it also crashes, there is a problem with your mlt install or with 
your file.

If your file has a .dv extension, try to rename it as .avi and see if it 
still crashes.

Otherwise, how did you install kdenlive and mlt ?

If you compiled it by yourself, please check that you have installed the 
required dependencies ( 
http://kdenlive.sourceforge.net/downloads.php#requirements ), and then 
clean your MLT repository before recompiling it.

If you used precompiled packages, it is probably a packaging problem...
