kdenlive supports whatever the renderer supports. piave only supports DV,
which is clear on the piave web page.  But most people don't realize this
because this the seperation of gui and render engine is pushed to the
extreme of two different projects. Usually this separation is not so
clear.

As soon as somebody implements them ;-)
I am willing to help with mpeg. This should be not to difficult for a
I-Frames only TS stream like it is produced by consumer AVCs by e.g. Sony.
The right thing would be to implement generic support for libav, but I
think this is not straight forward.
