[Kdenlive-devel] Performance Tip

Hi,

I just spent the past hour tracking down a 'bug'. Since I now know what causes
it, I thought I would share it with everyone else.

The behaviour I was seeing was as follows : when I chose to play a long
timeline (in this case, four minutes long), the interface would become more
and more sluggish over time, until by the end of the sequence had been
reached, it would take between 20 and 30 seconds for the UI to "catch up", at
which point it went back to full speed again.

The solution : disable debug messages, by checking the "Ignore Incoming
Messages" box in the debug panel :-)

The reason - there are a helluva lot of debug messages generated during
playback - currently five lines of text every frame!!! The poor old text
edits in the debug window quite literally couldn't keep up :-)

I can tone down the number of debug message, but they will remain on by
default; so if you are trying to use kdenlive for anything semi-serious, keep
that in mind :-)

Cheers,
Jason
