IIRC we at least agreed, that we want to have a _list_ of independent 
thingies, where every thingie contains a _tree_ ?

    <yyytree options... >
       <input ... "x.dv" >
    </yyytree>
    <yyytree options... >
       <effect ...>
    </yyytree>
    <yyytree options... >
       [...]
    </yyytree>
</xxxlist>

If this is what we wanted to do, then I have no opinion on if 'xxx' and 'yyy' 
is 'scene' or 'render'.
