Don't you just love it when you just love it when you've spent the entire 
evening trying to optimise a piece of drawing code, rewrite it to use dirty 
rectangles to selectively redraw the display, find it's still slow as hell, 
and then track down all of the problems to a single line of code?

It's fixed now, the ruler is blindly fast to use again.
