I think it would be nice to have an alternative network engine to the
networkmanager one available in kde. wicd [1] is a lightweight network manager
written in python which uses dbus as well.
wicd is less intrusive then networkmanager, so I think a lot of distros would
like to use it instead, at least a lot of users would definitely enjoy to have
an alternative available.
