Aha! One argument I didn't consider (since I use KDE with one or two GTK+ apps) is that a sane ~/.hidden implementation would be cross-compatible with Nautilus, thereby reducing hassle for integrators and any users who, for whatever reason, like to use both Nautilus and DolphinPart.
