Okay, this now seems to be working. (Note, initially this was reported when I was using KDE 4.0.4). I have upgraded kdelibs (via yum from the Fedora RPMS) to version kdelibs-4.0.5-4.fc9.x86_64.

I have tested this with 3 different screensavers; logged in and out and rebooted the PC. It works fine every time, the screensaver starts and then DPMS switches it to power-saving mode.

Not sure who changed what, but thanks :-)
