You could try via akonadiconsole. Also, when you're entering the details for the 1st time in the configure window, click the "Auto Detect" button under Connection Settings on the Advanced tab, then the Server Info button. 

If that fails, try with a different account, or install and configure an IMAP server on your own computer and try to connect to that.

Did you verify that your provider doesn't use a less common port to connect on and blocks the more common one? A remote host that blocks by keeping the client waiting indefinitely could explain the symptoms you are seeing.
