kmail does not mark "new" mails anymore

All versions of kmail in the past and all other email clients on the world 
distinguish between "new" and "unread" mail.

The latest versions of kmail have no "new" mail but just "unread". This is 
extremely annoying!
Is there a chance to get the "new" mail back?
