OK, the restart attempt crashed as well.  That symbol lookup error means 
that library (plasma_applet_dig_clock.so) is built against another 
library that either isn't installed, or where the wrong version is 
installed, so it can't find the symbol it needs.

So it's a library incompatibility issue.  You'll need to track down the 
library that should provide the missing symbol and either update or 
reinstall it, so that a version compatible with whatever the above 
library was built against is installed.

For that, as suggested before, please find your distro's lists and ask 
how to deal with such problems there.  But at least you're further along 
than you were, as you know for sure it's a library incompatibility issue.

Indeed.  But I'd still suggest creating a new user and testing with it 
first. just in case.  Because otherwise, if it's a config issue in /home 
that's pulling in that bad library, either /home will be kept and so will 
the problem (if your distro saves /home), or /home will be blown away and 
so will everything else you have saved there (if it doesn't).
