What is baloo_file_extractor and why is it humping my hard drive?

AFAIK Nepomuk/baloo do much the same job as Recoll. You can configure
which directories/folders are indexed, and include/exclude different
types of files. They will index contents of files, just like Recoll.

If Recoll does what you want, and you use it infrequently, there is
probably no benefit to you in changing. In fact, the only one I can
think of is that you can use Dolphin to do your searches with
nepomuk/baloo, whereas Recoll requires a dedicated tool.

I used Recoll for a while, until nepomuk got over its teething
troubles, and it is good at what it does.
