Plasma-desktop becoming very slow

I think I see this occasionally, usually after a tray icon got animated for a 
longer time.

Restarting plasma-desktop works for me, i.e.
I type this on a shell
kquitapp plasma-desktop

and then ALT+F2 and type plasma-desktop
