can't autojoin a network

There's this bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=490493 but 
it's old.  I'm sure that when I was researching wireless problems recently I 
came across a statement that there is a config statement that can turn off 
wifi if unused for a specific length of time.  That sounds like your 
experience, to me.  Unfortunately I don't know where I saw it, so you will 
have to do some googling.  Sorry
