KDE with full desktop effects causes slow response from JAVA swing application

Hey

I've experienced really slow response from Java GUI application with
desktop effects enabled.
Disabling desktop effects fixed the problem and now application works like
a charm.

Java application used:
- IntelliJ 10.5.4 (swing application)

Hardware:
IMac-27 (i7, 12Gb, ATI 5750 graphic card)
OS:
Linux mint with KDE 4.7

the reason I'm writing this is to know if anyone else experienced anything
like this, if so, can this be tweaked ?
I would also like to know about possible causes (ideas) to this issue.
