In Fedora 11 I use networkmanager with the plasma widget in the panel, and it
works perfectly. I don't know what Mandriva uses in the panel, but that also
works perfectly. Both run KDE 4.2.x.

At one point in the early days of KDE4 I did try knetworkmanager, and no, it
didn't work, but it turned out to be a KDE3 app, Have you checked the version
of yours? I don't recall ever seeing that it was ported to KDE4.

Try the plasma widget instead.

New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org
Just found a cool new feature? Add it to UserBase
